Accelerated Reading
Accelerated Reading is a program we started implementing in 2nd
grade. Your child will take the STAR test on the computer at
school. We will use their score to determine their AR goal.
Your child will be rewarded each quarter for reaching their goal. The
children that reach their goal all 4 quarters will be taken on a special field trip at the end of the year plus, get their name put into a drawing for a new bicycle. To reach their goal, the student has to read an AR book no more than one level below, on, or above their level. Then, they must pass a 5-10 question test over the book. If they score a 60% or better they get points for reading that book. You can check to see what books and quizzes are offered by going to Renaissance Learning. Use the search box to see if your child's book has an AR test.
Research shows students perform better when parents are involved in the learning process. By logging onto Renaissance Home Connect
parents can access real time information in English or Spanish to keep up to date with their child's AR progress.

Top Ten
We have a top ten readers list on a bulletin board in the hall outside the library. This is a list of the top ten readers, according to points, for that 9 week period. To become a top ten reader you have to read and successfully take the AR test for that book. The student is given points on the book according to its level and points value. The top ten students with the most collective points for that 9 week period, will see their names on the top ten list. The top ten readers for the year will get to take a trip with me at the end of the year.
